Is Grecotel Corfu Imperial Good for a Woman Traveling Alone? I Scored It.

Yes. Grecotel Corfu Imperial, a big resort on the Kommeno peninsula in Corfu, passed the WTD Standard for a woman traveling alone, which I'm so happy about. I got there at midnight on my own, at the start of my 38th birthday trip through the Ionian islands, and how the hotel handled that night is a big part of why. It scored 90% on core and 100% on solo.

WTD Standard scorecard for Grecotel Corfu Imperial, Corfu: Pass. Core 90%, Solo 100%, access answers 83%, both gates passed.

The access score is for how it answered, not for how easy it is to get around.

Read for: Solo. Not read for Partnered or Friends.

How this read was booked. Booked at a preferred rate through my own agency and paid for by me. I earn a booking commission on stays I book, and I earned one on this stay. No property paid to be read, and no payment has ever changed a verdict. I stayed as a paying guest. When I wrote to the property with questions I identified myself as a travel advisor and said I write publicly and may reference the answers. I did not tell any property it was being scored against a standard. The properties that haven't earned the mark yet are published too, with the reason stated.

  • Stayed and read: July 2025

  • Scored: October 2026

  • Property knew I was an advisor: NO, not during the stay. I told them when I wrote with questions in August 2026.

  • Mode: Solo

This is a hospitality read, not a safety rating. I score how a hotel treats a woman on her own. I do not certify that anywhere is safe, because nobody can. How the WTD Standard works →

My three nights alone at Grecotel Corfu Imperial

Corfu was the first stop on a birthday trip I took on my own through the Ionian islands in July 2025, and my first time on that side of Greece. Corfu Imperial is a bigger resort than I'd usually pick, but it has a lot of restaurants, pools and things to do without leaving the grounds. I booked a Swim Up Junior Bungalow Suite at a preferred rate through my own agency, and that's the room I stayed in, so the suite I describe is the category you'd book too.

Someone at the hotel emailed me before I arrived, without my asking, and arranged my car from the airport. It was a long travel day, and that car brought me in at midnight.

At the desk they pointed out that the reservation was for two and asked if I was expecting someone else. That was my mistake, because I'd booked it for two adults and never changed it to one, and once I said it was just me, nobody assumed a second person again for the rest of my stay. They checked me in, gave me an overview of the property, told me what time breakfast was served and let me know room service was still open if I was hungry after the long day. Then they drove me to my room in a golf cart, showing me where things were on the way, carried my luggage in and gave me a short tour of the room. The concierge showed me how to order room service, and I did, at about 12:30 in the morning.

My suite opened straight to the outside rather than onto a hallway, so there was no peephole, but there was a deadbolt as a second lock, and it worked. Waiting inside were a bottle of champagne, baklava and two big bottles of still and sparkling water. My laptop fit in the safe, the robe and slippers fit, and there were mirrors and outlets where I needed them to get ready. There wasn't a true full-length mirror, though, because the big one in the wardrobe area stops a little short. My room number was never said out loud at the desk.

On Saturday I asked the concierge for a table for one at Yali, the seafood restaurant on the water at the resort, and they gave me a table by the water with a good view of the sunset and, later, the lights of the yachts. I had the seabass ceviche, the lobster pasta, galaktoboureko and a local white. Nobody rushed me, and when my dessert took longer than usual to come out, they took it off my bill without my asking. I was the last person to leave the restaurant that night, and the whole dinner reminded me of the first time I fell in love with Greece, years ago in Mykonos.

On Sunday I ate at Trattoria, which also looks out to sea, and nobody there said a word about me eating alone either. The restaurants that were open had espresso, coffee and drinks without alcohol. On Monday I left for Zakynthos.

What Grecotel Corfu Imperial told me when I asked

After the stay, I wrote to the hotel as an advisor with my questions in August 2026. Reservations and the Sales Manager wrote back the next day, and four days after I wrote, Guest Relations answered every question that was left, in full.

On women on staff, it said, "Female colleagues are on duty during almost every shift across the Front Office and Housekeeping departments, with the exception of certain night shifts." It named the gap itself, which is what I ask for, but it didn't say what it does on those nights.

On a guest who feels uncomfortable, it said it would "strongly encourage the guest to contact our Guest Services or Reception team immediately," and that its team "would be pleased to assist discreetly and promptly at any time." That tells you who to go to, when, and what happens next.

On room numbers, it said, "We never disclose any personal information, including guest names or room numbers, without first confirming with the guest themselves," which matched what happened at the desk.

On airport cars, it said, "Airport transfers can be arranged at any hour," that "The driver's details can also be shared with the guest in advance," and that "A female driver may be available upon request, subject to availability." It didn't promise a woman driver, it said it might have one.

On eating alone, it told me it keeps a list of restaurants across Corfu, "all of which have been tried and tested by our team," with places that feel welcoming "whether dining alone or with company," and that it would "be happy to contact the restaurant and make the necessary arrangements on her behalf."

Room service runs 24 hours, with a reduced menu from 11 at night to 7 in the morning. The hotel only offers rates for two, with no separate rate for one, so you pay the same on your own and there's no extra charge for traveling alone. On period care, it said, "There is absolutely no need for the guest to feel embarrassed or provide any detailed explanation." Its bars and restaurants have non-alcoholic options, and it will make drinks off the menu. Guest Relations also offers a WhatsApp line before you arrive. The spa is open from 10 in the morning to 8:30 at night in high season, and to 6:30 in low season.

Grecotel Corfu Imperial accessibility: the six facts

I publish the same six facts for every hotel, and I don't rate them. I didn't take a tape measure on this stay, so every fact below is what the hotel told me in writing when I asked in September 2026, or what it publishes.

The hotel's full answer, in its own words, from its Reservations team in September 2026:

"kindly note that we are not an accessible property however there are several wheelchair and stroller friendly accesses around the resort which are rather helpful and may provide easier access to the facilities and of course we may provide our services with our club cars whenever is necessary and accessible."

"Not all departments are accessible to guests in wheelchairs. Ramp section beside most of the steps in the hotel. We recommend our guests in wheelchairs are to be accompanied as there are some parts of the hotel and surrounding area that may be difficult to access. No specially adapted rooms for the mobility impaired guests."

Its own website says the same thing before anyone asks: "Not all departments are accessible to guests in wheelchairs. However, there are ramp sections beside most of the steps in the hotel," and guide dogs are permitted "to accompany their handler in all hotel areas." It answered my access questions three days after I sent them, and it was the plainest about its limits of the six Greek hotels I wrote to. It didn't answer my questions on the lift, door widths, bed height or parking, so if you need those, ask the hotel before you book.

What Grecotel Corfu Imperial does well

  • It handled a midnight arrival from start to finish: the car from the airport, the desk, the golf cart, and room service at 12:30 in the morning.

  • It gave me a table for one by the water at Yali, booked through the concierge, and let me be the last one to leave.

  • It keeps a list of restaurants its own team has tried, and it will call ahead and book for you.

  • It keeps your room number private, in writing and at the desk.

  • It doesn't charge more for one person.

  • It told me plainly about its access limits, in its own words, before and after I asked.

Where it fell short

  • Nothing for an evening arrival who wants a treatment. The spa is open until 8:30 at night in high season, and nothing was offered for a woman who lands after it closes.

  • Night staffing. Women are on almost every shift, except certain night shifts, and it didn't say what it does on those nights.

  • Some access questions went unanswered: the lift, door widths, bed height and parking.

  • It publishes almost nothing for a woman on her own. Its website has a page for family holidays and nothing for women traveling alone. It answered every question in my first message once they reached the right team, and most of my access questions too.

Who Grecotel Corfu Imperial is for

It suits a woman on her own who wants a hotel that guards her privacy, tells her the truth about its limits, and serves hot food all night. If you need exact doorway measurements, ask for them before you book.

I've also scored Lesante Blu on Zakynthos and A77 Suites in Athens, the last two stops on the same trip. I've also written about how I choose a hotel when I'm traveling alone as well. Every card is scored the same way, and the full method is here.

Details change. Every fact on this card was true on the date of the read. Confirm anything you are relying on with the property when you book. If something here is now wrong, tell me and I will update the card and date the change.
