Is A77 Suites Good for a Woman Traveling Alone? I Scored It.
A Juliet balcony at A77 Suites in Plaka, with the Acropolis beyond.
Yes. A77 Suites, a twelve-suite hotel in Plaka, Athens, passed the WTD Standard. I booked it from the airport about an hour before I walked in, alone, in July 2025. It cleared every section, though it sits right on the floor for required items and its answer about women on staff didn't really answer. What decided it was what the hotel did when my future husband phoned to leave me a note.
How this read was booked. Booked at a preferred rate through my own agency and paid for by me. I earn a booking commission on stays I book, and I earned one on this stay. No property paid to be read, and no payment has ever changed a verdict. I stayed as a paying guest. When I wrote to the property with questions I identified myself as a travel advisor and said I write publicly and may reference the answers. I did not tell any property it was being scored against a standard.
Stayed and read: July 2025
Scored: September 2026
Property knew I was an advisor: not until I checked out

This is a hospitality read, not a safety rating. I score how a hotel treats a woman on her own. I do not certify that anywhere is safe, because nobody honestly can. How the WTD Standard works →
My night alone at A77 Suites
I was supposed to be flying home to Tennessee. A delayed flight from Zakynthos made me miss my connection in Athens, and there wasn't another seat until the next day. So while I waited for my bag, I booked A77 Suites, a hotel I'd wanted to stay in for a while, at a preferred rate through my own agency, the same way I'd book it for a client.
I got there in the early afternoon, about an hour after I booked, and they were ready for me. You come in through the hotel's boutique, where the check-in desk is, and the first thing anyone said to me was "Kalispera and welcome." Nobody asked if I was waiting for someone. They gave me a cold juice, took my bag up in the elevator while I took the stairs, and walked me to my door without saying my room number out loud.
A refreshing welcome drink after missing my international flight.
A female concierge showed me around the suite, including how to lock and unlock the Juliet balcony, which looks over the street in Plaka with the Acropolis behind it. My room was an Elegant Suite with a partial Acropolis view, on what Europe calls the first floor, and I wasn't upgraded, so it's the room you'd get too. Waiting inside was a spoon of cherries, the traditional Greek welcome sweet, and a glass of water. A welcome treat came with my rate, and the cherries were what the hotel picked.
Then she showed me a note by the bed. I thought it was a welcome note from the hotel, and it was from my future husband. He knew I was upset about missing my flight home, so he'd phoned and asked them to leave it. They took his message and wouldn't even confirm I was staying there. She checked that I knew who he was, and told me they hadn't confirmed a single detail about my stay to him.
The room was large for an old building in the middle of Athens, with good light and a desk I could actually work at. The door had a second, deadbolt lock with a do not disturb sign. My laptop fit in the safe, the robe fit, and there was a big mirror in the bathroom with good lighting and a full-length mirror by the wardrobe, with outlets I didn't have to hunt for. There's no restaurant, so I went down to the desk and asked where to eat. They sent me to the spots locals go, pointed me to the Mnisikleous Stairs a couple of blocks away, and offered to call ahead. I said no, because I hadn't decided where I wanted to eat yet.
They'd already asked whether I needed a car for my early flight, and they set it up. When I came down before dawn, a pastry and a coffee were waiting in the lobby and my driver was already outside in the dark.
My room was the Elegant Suite with a partial Acropolis view and juliet balcony.
What A77 Suites told me when I asked
After the stay, I wrote to the hotel as an advisor with ten questions. The answers came back in about five hours from the representation firm that handles its enquiries, not from staff at the hotel itself, and I've kept that in mind reading them.
On a guest who feels uncomfortable, it said to contact "our Reception team immediately," where the team will "assist, address the situation discreetly." So a guest knows where to go, and that someone will act.
On eating alone, it said it will "recommend restaurants that are comfortable and suitable for solo dining. We can also make the reservation on the guest's behalf and, whenever appropriate, contact the restaurant in advance." That's what it offered me in person, too.
On cars, it said transfers "can be arranged at any time of day or night. A female driver can be requested; however, we are unable to guarantee this."
On room numbers, it said it doesn't share "guest names, room numbers, or any personal information to third parties without the guest's consent," and the note showed me what that looks like. On period care, a guest can "simply contact Reception, without needing to provide any detailed explanation." On price for one, its rates are "based on double occupancy," so the room costs the same for one guest as for two. On a treatment after a late arrival, it has no spa, but it offered to arrange "in-room appointments in advance, including for guests arriving in the evening, subject to availability."
A77 Suites accessibility: the six facts
I publish the same six facts for every hotel, and I don't rate them. I didn't take a tape measure on this stay, so every fact below came from the hotel in writing.

It sent all six in about four hours, and four of them were limits it didn't have to admit. It also has no designated accessible room. When I asked whether an accessible room is held once it's booked, it said a request is noted and it does its best to give the guest "the most suitable room," but it can't promise a specific room ahead of time. Its own website says nothing about access at all. Those are the two access answers I couldn't score: there's nothing published to check against, and no designated room to hold. There are three steps at the door, so if you need step-free access, this isn't the hotel. If you have other access needs, write to the hotel before you book and ask which rooms would suit you.
What A77 Suites does well
It got a room ready within the hour for a woman stuck between flights.
It kept my privacy when someone actually called, then told me what it had held back.
It answered all six access questions in about four hours, including the ones that cost it.
It had my driver waiting outside before dawn, and when it books your car it tells you who to expect.
Where it fell short
The staffing answer didn't answer. I asked whether a woman is always on duty at the front desk and in housekeeping, and it wrote, "Our team includes both female and male colleagues," which tells me about the team but not about who's on at night.
Room service stops at 8:30 at night, with the full menu until then, which is the earliest of any hotel that answered me. It said Reception can arrange delivery from outside after that.
I had to ask for a neighborhood briefing. The advice was good, but it came when I went down and asked, not when I arrived.
Who A77 Suites is for
It suits a woman who wants to be walked to her door in a small hotel in Plaka, even when she books at the last minute, and who likes to eat out in the neighborhood rather than in her hotel. It's not the right hotel if you need step-free access, because there are three steps at the door, or if you want dinner downstairs, because there's no restaurant.
Questions about A77 Suites for a woman traveling alone
-
Yes. It passed the WTD Standard on my one-night solo stay in July 2025. It scored 86% on the scored core items and 88% on the solo items, and two required items were excused because it has no dining room and I booked an hour before I arrived. It fell short on its answer about women on staff, on room service ending at 8:30 at night, and on waiting for me to ask about the neighborhood.
-
No. The hotel told me in writing that its rates are "based on double occupancy," which means the room is priced the same whether one or two people stay.
-
No. There's no step-free way in. The hotel told me in writing that there are three steps at the main entrance, the lift reaches two guest floors, and the top suite is about 15 steps up. Its bathrooms have walk-in showers without steps and its doorways are about 80 cm wide. It has no designated accessible room, so if you have other access needs, ask the hotel which rooms would suit you before you book.
-
No. When I asked where to eat on my own, the desk gave me places nearby and offered to call ahead, and the hotel says it can book a table for you and, when it's appropriate, contact the restaurant ahead of time.

The hotel didn't say. Asked whether a woman is always on duty, it said its team includes both women and men. A female concierge walked me up and showed me my room.
This week's other card is Lesante Blu on Zakynthos, the first hotel to pass. I've also written about how I choose a hotel when I'm traveling alone. Every card is scored the same way, and the full method is here.
Details change. Every fact on this card was true on the date of the read. Confirm anything you are relying on with the property when you book. If something here is now wrong, tell me and I will update the card and date the change.
