A Celebration of New Beginnings

I booked a two-week solo trip through the Greek Islands to celebrate my 38th birthday and my new life as an entrepreneur. After leaving my corporate job, I wanted this trip to mark a new beginning; one filled with freedom, beauty, and adventure.

I’ve been to Greece many times before, but this was my first time visiting the Ionian Islands. After exploring Corfu, I made my way to Zakynthos, a place known for turquoise water, sea caves, and peaceful resorts. I stayed at two different luxury resorts; Olea All Suites and Lesante Blu. Both were stunning hotels with private plunge pools, sea views, amazing restaurants and offered exclusive experiences.

To celebrate my birthday, I booked a dinner at Melia Fine Dining, located right at my resort. It had incredible reviews and a sea front view that made the evening feel magical.

Why Zakynthos is Great for Solo Travel

Zakynthos is calm, peaceful, and full of beauty. It’s one of the best places for female solo travelers who want to enjoy luxury and quiet time on their own.

I explored the island with private hotel transfers, visited Zakynthos Town, and even took a private boat tour. Staying at a 5-star hotel like Olea All Suites or Lesante Blue made everything easy and safe.

Dining Solo at Melia Fine Dining

Melia Fine Dining is one of those restaurants that feels special from the moment you walk in. The sea glows in the background, and the tables are set for an evening of elegance.

I chose the tasting menu with wine pairings; a favorite experience of mine when in Greece. Each dish was crafted beautifully, full of flavor and creativity. The service was perfect, and the staff made sure I had everything I needed.

The only thing I didn’t love? The live band. They were talented, but they played all American music. As someone from Nashville, I didn’t expect to come to Greece to hear songs from home. Greek music would have made the evening feel more authentic and romantic.

The Dining Experience

The food was wonderful. Each course felt like a piece of art with a story. The sea breeze, the soft lighting, and the rhythm of the waves made it feel peaceful.

I noticed I was the only solo diner in the restaurant. Every other table was set for two. A woman at the next table kept glancing at me. I didn’t know why; maybe she was curious or surprised. I thought to myself, If I were new to solo travel, that might have made me uncomfortable.

But in that moment, I felt proud. As women, we should support one another; even when our journeys look different. I knew that one day, I would be at a table for two, but it would be this solo journey of Table’s for One that would get me there.

Tips for Solo Traveling in Zakynthos

  1. Book a luxury hotel with transfers. Some ports don’t have taxis, so plan ahead.

  2. Enjoy the resort amenities. You can relax, dine, and explore without leaving the property.

  3. Do a private boat tour. It’s the best way to see Zakynthos’ caves and turquoise waters.

Final Thoughts: A Celebration, Not Solitude

That night at Melia Fine Dining was more than just a meal; it was a celebration of everything I had worked for and a manifestation of what was to come.

I was proud of myself for leaving my corporate career, for chasing freedom, and for choosing this path. Dining solo under the Greek sky reminded me that courage and confidence come in quiet moments too.
