Dining Solo in Tampa:

Tampa was not just another stop for me. I came here first for work. But after my meetings, I decided to stay longer and enjoy the city for myself. I booked a room at The Tampa Edition, a hotel that had just received a Michelin Key. I wanted to know why.

I tried almost every part of the hotel; its restaurants, cocktail bar, rooftop bar, and even the staff recommendations. The spa was going through renovation, but everything else was amazing. What made me feel most at home was the kindness of the staff. They remembered me from a past trip. They greeted me by name. As a solo traveler, these small things mattered. It felt like I had friends here.

One night, I chose to treat myself to a special dinner at Lilac, the Michelin-starred restaurant inside the hotel.

Why Tampa is Great for Solo Travel

Tampa is a mix of work and play. The city has rooftop bars with bay and sunset views, top restaurants, and hotels that make you feel welcome. It is also easy to relax here after a busy work trip or have a beach day at the stunning Clearwater Beach.

For women traveling alone, Tampa is a city where you can balance business with pleasure. A work trip can quickly turn into a luxury solo escape.

Dining Solo at Lilac, The Tampa Edition

Lilac is a Michelin-starred restaurant hidden in the lobby of The Tampa Edition. Its open kitchen lets you watch the chefs at work. The room is stylish, and even though it was tucked away from the lobby, I wish it had been in a private room away from the lobby. The location of the restaurant inside the lobby is the only negative point I can give Lilac.

Still, dining here felt special. The staff made me feel cared for. They spoke to me by name. They treated me like I was with friends, even though I came alone.

The Dining Experience

I ordered the four-course dinner with wine pairings.

  • Hors d’Oeuvres: Maine Lobster Feuillantine

  • Appetizer: Diver Scallop

  • Entree: Duck au Poivre

  • Dessert: Chocolate Walnut Cremeux

Every dish was rich with flavor. The wine pairings matched perfectly. The service was smooth and elegant. For me, the best part was how the staff never let me feel alone.

Tips for Eating Alone in Tampa

Here are my go-to tips:

  1. Talk with hotel staff. They often share the best local spots and keep an eye out for your safety.

  2. Try a Michelin restaurant. Treat yourself to food that celebrates the art of dining.

  3. Stay in luxury. A good hotel makes solo travel easier, safer, and more fun.

Final Thoughts: A Celebration, Not Solitude

Dining at Lilac taught me something. Even when I felt tired of my corporate job, I felt grateful too. That same job gave me the chance to enjoy a Michelin Key hotel and a Michelin-starred dinner.

If you travel for work, don’t let the trip end at the office. Stay a little longer. Treat yourself. Solo travel can start this way; with one dinner, one night, one choice to enjoy your own company.
