Welcome to Miami!
Work trips do not have to mean staying in the same chain hotel and eating at the closest chain restaurant. When I first started traveling for work, I always stayed at Hampton Inns. That’s what my old boss did. While this can be good for points and status, sometimes it is worth it to try something new.
On this trip, I went to Miami Beach and stayed at Esmé Hotel; a boutique hotel that was actually in my corporate budget. Even better, it had a Michelin Key. The hotel sat on charming Española Way, a Spanish-style street lined with outdoor cafés and restaurants. I could walk outside and feel the life of the city.
This trip was also personal. My house had been on the market for three months with no offers. The day I arrived in Miami, I finally got one and it was the one I wanted to accept! To celebrate, I booked a table for one at Watr Rooftop Restaurant and raised a glass of champagne to myself.
Why Miami is Great for Solo Travel
Miami is more than beaches and nightlife. It’s a city full of boutique hotels, rooftop bars, and colorful streets. Many boutique hotels here are the same price as chain hotels but offer better perks; like restaurant credits, stylish cocktail bars, and lively neighborhoods.
For solo travelers, Miami is perfect. The city is vibrant, but there are also cozy corners where you can celebrate your own wins.

Dining Solo at Watr Rooftop
Watr Rooftop is perched above Miami Beach, with stunning views of the city and ocean. The setting is tropical and modern, perfect for celebrating a milestone.
I made a reservation for one, ordered a glass of Veuve Clicquot, and toasted to selling my first home. The champagne wasn’t covered by my corporate budget, but that didn’t matter. Some moments are worth treating yourself.
The Dining Experience
Dinner at Watr was more than food, it was a vibe! The rooftop glow, the ocean breeze, the sound of music floating above the city.
I celebrated my success with every sip. Selling my first investment property took longer than I planned, but it happened. Sitting there, in the Miami night, I felt proud of myself.
