Location Guide to Luxury Hotels in Athens
Location is absolutely everything in Athens! During my first visit, I made the rookie mistake of booking a beautiful hotel that was just a bit too far from the historic center. Sure, the hotel was gorgeous, but those daily taxi rides added up quickly.
Syntagma
My go-to recommendation for first-time luxury travelers. It's like being in the heart of a beautiful chaos (in the best way possible!).
You're steps away from the Parliament building, and the high-end shops of Ermou Street are right at your doorstep.
The Grande Bretagne and King George, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Athens here have literally hosted royalty - and trust me, they'll make you feel like royalty too!
For a more modern luxury hotel option in Syntagma, The Gatsby Athens will not disappoint!
Plaka
Oh my goodness, talk about charm!
The hotels here have historic character, charm and coveted Acropolis views. Check out The Dolli, a 1925 Plaka landmark turned luxury hotel.
Be prepared for a lot of walking - many streets are lined with uneven cobblestone and marble, which is actually part of the historic charm.
Athens Riviera
My favorite area and is where I send travelers looking for a different side of Athens luxury.
Located about 30 minutes from the city center, this Mediterranean strip feels more like a Greek Island destination.
The Four Seasons Astir Palace here is an absolute game-changer - imagine waking up to the sound of gentle waves and ending your day with sunset cocktails overlooking the Saronic Gulf. Trust me, I’ve stayed at The Four Seasons Astir Palace and you can truly hear the Aegean Sea from your bed!
What is so amazing is that you can combine ancient city exploration with a beach vacation.
Many luxury hotels in this area offer shuttle services to the city center, and the tram makes transportation easy.
Each of these areas offers a distinctly different luxury experience. For first-time visitors wanting to maximize sightseeing, I recommend Syntagma. If you're after charm and history with your luxury, choose Plaka. And for those seeking a blend of city culture and coastal relaxation, the Athens Riviera is unbeatable. Just remember - no matter which area you choose, transportation to other parts of the city is readily available through public transportation, hotel car services or easily arranged private transfers.

Top Acropolis-View Luxury Hotels
Here's a pro tip that I’ve learned - not all "Acropolis view" rooms are created equal! I've learned to always ask if the view is unobstructed view or a partial view. The Acropolis is illuminated at night, and each time I’ve seen it illuminated, it still takes my breath away.

Ultra-Luxury Amenities and Services
The award-winning luxury spa at the The Four Seasons Astir Palace is said to be the most impressive in Athens. I did not get to experience the spa during my stay at the Four Seasons Astir Palace, but it is on my priority list for my next stay! They're known for combining ancient Greek wellness traditions with modern luxury treatments. They offer everything from massages, to facials to luxury relaxation experiences.
When it comes to dining, the Michelin-starred restaurants within these hotels are redefining Greek cuisine. The Tudor Hall Restaurant at the King George Hotel offers a modern take on traditional Greek dishes. Don’t forget to enjoy the wine pairings that showcase some of the finest Greek wines.
Seaside Luxury Hotels in Athens
Waking up in Greece to the sound of the Aegean Sea is the luxury itself. Now, also imagine having your breakfast served to your private terrace overlooking the Aegean Sea; this sounds like a fairytale but it is a reality at the Four Seasons Astir Palace! Trust me, I experienced this during my recent stay. The Four Seasons Astir Palace is not just another Four Seasons hotel, it’s a luxury resort that sits on a private peninsula and feels like a luxurious Greek Island. If you prefer chic, luxury boutique properties over resorts; then a stay at The Margi is a must!

What really impresses me is how these new properties are incorporating sustainability. Seasonal Considerations for Luxury Stays
If you're flexible with your travel dates, here's an insider secret: book your Athens luxury stay for late May or early October. The weather is perfect, the crowds are thinner, and you'll often find better rates on premium rooms. Plus, the rooftop pools are still open during these months!
From my experience visiting Athens in shoulder season, I've noticed the service is often more personalized since the staff isn't as rushed. You're more likely to get those coveted restaurant reservations and spa appointments too.
Exclusive Hotel Experiences and Packages
The private experiences these hotels can arrange are truly next-level. Athens is a year-round destination but if you’re going for a Greek summer holiday then you should be prepared for mass crowds. The historic sites in Athens are absolutely remarkable and you don’t want these once in a lifetime moments to be ruined by the mass crowds. Utilize the exclusive hotel experiences and packages for private tours of popular tourist areas, such as the Acropolis, to maximize your time and ensure you have the best experience.
Many hotels also offer incredible culinary experiences. Imagine taking a cooking class where you learn about Greek ingredients from local markets, and then you prepare an amazing Greek feast.

Conclusion
After my experiences staying in Athens' luxury hotels, I can confidently say that the city offers some of the most unique high-end accommodations in Europe. Whether you choose a historical hotel with views of the Acropolis or a luxurious Mediterranean resort with Aegean Sea views, you're in for an unforgettable experience.
My final piece of advice? Book early, especially for rooms with Acropolis views. These premium rooms often sell out months in advance, particularly during peak season. And don't hesitate to reach out to the hotel's concierge before your stay - they can help arrange those special experiences that will make your Athens visit truly extraordinary.
